「VERSACE（ヴェルサーチ）」のクリエイティブ・ディレクター、ドナテラ・ヴェルサーチと「H&M」による「VERSACE for H&M」が、2011年11月8日ニューヨーク時間午後8時より動き出した。
ヴェルサーチ（VERSACE）のクリエイティブ・ディレクター、ドナテラ・ヴェルサーチ（Donatella Versace）と「H&M」による「VERSACE for H&M」が2011年11月8日ニューヨーク時間午後8時より動き出した。この企画が発表された数ヶ月前 … 誰もがヴェルサーチのアイコニックなデザインたちを想像したであろう。あの頃のヴェルサーチをね。まず最初はカクテルパーティからスタート。会場はその日の為だけに登場した「VERSACE FOR H&M HALL ON THE HUDSON」。エントランスを抜けたらタキシードを着たボーイズたちがお出迎え。奥へ行けばあの映画の俳優陣に歌手、フォトグラファーにモデルとファッション界のトップで活躍する人ばかり。そうこうしているうちに、ショー会場へと案内されるエブリワン。興奮する気持ちを押さえきれず動き回る人々 … フロントロウに座る著名人をスナップしてみたり … ワンやクリストファー、アナ・スイらにインタビューをする海外メディア。とにかく … 豪華！そして、ショー開始ギリギリ大きな拍手が … そう、拍手と共に登場したプリンス（PRINCE）の姿が。隣にはレニー・クラヴィッツの娘、ゾーイ・クラヴィッツの姿が。
とにかく何もかもが豪華、ドナテラ率いるAクラス人々。午後9時を過ぎた頃、待ちにまった「VERSACE for H&M」の幕開け。カラフルな色使いにヴェルサーチならではの鮮やかな色、ワイルドなプリント、ジョー・マッケンナによるスタイリング術で見所満載なヴェルサーチの世界観。会場には、ソフィア・コッポラ、アナ・スイ、ワン（アレキサンダー）、セルマ・ブレア、ジェニファー・ハドソン、ブレイク・ライブラリー、リンダ・エヴァンジェリスタ、ジェシカ・アルバ、ゾーイ・クラヴィッツ、アビー・コーニッシュ、チェイス・クロフォード、ザカリー・クイント、マーク・ロンソン、フーゴ・ベッカー、ユマ・サーマンと多くの著名人が駆けつけたほか、テリー・リチャードソンやブルース・ウェーバー、パトリック・デマルシェリエといった大御所写真家たちの姿も。
ショー終了後は、ニッキー・ミナージュとプリンスの貴重すぎるライブパフォーマンスが披露された。1曲や2曲だけかと思いきや、6曲も披露したプリンスの歌声に会場はコンサート状態。
本コレクションは、11月17日（日本のみ11月19日）世界各地のH&M300店舗とオンラインストアで発売されるほか、11月17日にオープンを控えたH&M戎橋2号店では、オープニングパーティが開催されると同時に「VERSACE for H&M」の先行発売を予定。
VERSACE for H&M launched in spectacular style on Tuesday night at the ‘Versace for H&M Hall’, a specially renovated space on the Hudson River. Perhaps the most anticipated of H&M’s collaborations so far, the celebratory ‘best of Versace’ collection brought out a galaxy of stars. Pictured top is the lady herself, Donatella Versace with her daughter Allegra. They were followed by Nicki Minaj in a specially customized Versace for H&M set-up. As I took photos Joe walked the red carpet with our friend Tiffany Godoy, long time contributor to many international fashion publications and Editor of ‘The Reality Show’. Donning pieces either from the collaboration or from the House of Versace the stars continued to arrive, Designer Alexander Wang with Zoe Kravitz, Uma Thurman, Debbie Harry, Stephen Dorf, Jessica Alba, Linda Evangelista, Zack Quinto, Chace Crawford, Kaylee Defer, Selma Blair, Abbie Cornish and Tinsley Mortimer were some of the people I photographed before joining them all inside the cocktail party. It was wall to wall with elite fashion names including photographers Terry Richardson, Patrick Demarchlier and Bruce Weber whom it was a pleasure to meet and photograph with Joe (above). The energy in the room was insane, we ran into Japanese actress Mika Nakashima as Jennifer Hudson, Helena Christensen and various Gossip Girlers took their places, finally, Prince took his place front row for the show to begin.
Over a sound track featuring Donatella uttering the phrase ‘My House, my rules, my pleasure’, a host of big name models including Abbey Lee, Daphne G, Natasha Poly, Sean O’pry, Lindsay Wixson and River Viperi paraded the Versace for H&M collection. And here’s the clincher…. Top Models, Celebrity filled front row, VERSACE… for a collection accessible to all. That’s what’s exciting about Versace for H&M. For many of us growing up in the 90’s VERSACE was the pinnacle of fashion and all of the house’s iconography is available in this line.
When the show was done, Donatella took a well deserved victory lap before opening a huge set of doors which lead the way into the after party area. High on the atmosphere of the night we only needed a couple of drinks before taking our place at the front of the stage for performances by Nicki Minaj and PRINCE! Nicki was amazing, but Prince. Prince lived up to his legendary status. Tears were shed during his ‘Purple Rain’ finale, this was a night many will remember for the rest of their lives.
After the performance the pop-up shop opened and everyone went crazy trying to get in. The mens stuff was the quickest to go as editors and famous folk jostled for palm tree prints and studded leathers. We managed to get a few pieces but will be at the Japan launch in Osaka next week to grab the things we weren’t able to at dollar prices!
VERSACE FOR H&M will be on sale Japan November 19th !!!!!!
