近年「アメリカン・ホラー・ストーリー：ホテル」などで女優としても活躍するレディー・ガガが、俳優のブラッドリー・クーパーによる監督デビュー作「アリー/スター誕生」で初主演。
これまでも何度か映画化されてきた本作は、1937年に公開された名作映画「スタア誕生」のリメイク版で、ウェイトレスをしながら歌手になることを夢見る主人公アリー（レディー・ガガ）が、スターダムを駆け上る感動の物語。ベネチア国際映画祭では8分間のスタンディング オベーションと大絶賛。10月25日から11月3日にかけて開催される第31回東京国際映画祭では、オープニング上映作品に決定している。

Lady Gaga’s first full movie debut, a remake of the classic ‘A Star is Born’ is set to open the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in October. As well as starring in the film, Cooper takes also directed and helped write the script. The pair spoke of the ‘instant chemistry’ they felt when they met to discuss working on the film together. ‘A Star is Born’ has received rave reviews so far and although it opens worldwide in October, the official Japan release isn’t until December 2018. TIFF 2018 runs from October 25th – November 3rd.
