2010年2月11日に眠りについてしまった天才ファッションデザイナー、アレキサンダー・マックイーン（Alexander McQueen）を引き継いだ新クリエイティブ・ディレクター、サラ・バートン（Sarah Burton）が、アレキサンダー・マックイーンの2011年春夏コレクションを発表。全てのコレクションを受け持った彼女は、セント・マーチン卒で96年よりマックイーンの元で活動している。マックイーンが眠りについて初のコレクションとなる2011年春夏ウィメンズコレクション。まず、言えることは、何よりも美しい。そして、ポジティブ。マックイーンのダークな部分は残っているものの、新たに加わった彼女のスタイルがうまくミックスされている。細かいディテールに要チェック。
Paris S/S 2011 saw the debut runway collection by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. McQueen’s long time protege stated “The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy,” when she took over the role of Creative Director after McQueen passed away in February of this year. True to her word, McQueen’s S/S 2011 presentation was bold, romantic, and striking. Across the media most agreed that Burton had succeeded in continuing McQueen’s vision albeit with a slight feminine touch. Burton has a difficult job, if she stays true to McQueens legacy people will say she is ‘copying’, if she evolves the House too much people will say she is being untrue to the nature of the brand. I think she can cope, actually judging by this collection I think she will excel. McQueen’s name appears to be in great hands.
