アラーキーこと荒木経惟氏による「V MAGAZINE」のエディトリアルに、水原希子と上田大輔、柳俊太郎の3人が登場。スタイリング、シュンちゃんことシュン・ワタナベ。 せっかくの「THE ASIAN ISSUE」なのだからアジアンスターを表紙に起用してほしいところだが。
編集長スティーブン・ガンは、「models.com」でこう話している。「正直なところ、わたしたちはアジアンスターと呼ばれる人物を探していたんだ。」「宿題として家に持ち帰り真剣にね。」が、「アジアンスターはめったにアメリカに来ないから。」同日「ガガと私は、何通かのメールのやり取りで「Born This Way」も発売されることだし、タイミング的に”10日前”の発売ということもあり彼女の起用を決めたのさ。とても自然な流れだったよ。」それからは「頭に浮かんだアイデアをフォトグラファーのイネス＆ヴィノードらと共に共有し、3つの（「Japanese butterfly（日本の蝶）」「Bollywood Shiva goddess（ボリウッドの女神）」）キャラクター（ガガ）を組み合わせたのさ（HERE）。まぁ、要するに何をするにもビジネス＝セールスということでしょう。
また、ガガ表紙の「V71 – THE ASIAN ISSUE」では、売上げの10％を「国際緊急援助（Japan Disaster Relief）」に寄付されます。
Gaga may be on the cover but there are plenty of Asians within the new issue of V Magazine and this editorial features the top tier of Japanese fashion talent in the shape of legendary photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, stylist Shun Watanabe, and models Kiko Mizuhara and Daisuke Ueda with relatively new face Shuntaro Yanagi .
Internet forums are rife with criticism of V Magazines choice of cover for their ‘Asia’ issue, Editor in Chief Steven Gan told models.com, ‘Honestly, we searched high and low for Asian celebrities, and we seriously did our homework. But stars who are big in Asia rarely come to America, and getting someone shot over there the way we like things done, started to look tougher and tougher. Gaga and I were emailing the day “Born This Way” came out and I said, “You deserve another cover!” It turned out our Summer issue was coming out ten days before her new album was due to hit. And so I turned to Inez & Vinoodh to come up with an idea that showed her as 3 different characters: herself, a Japanese butterfly, and a Bollywood Shiva goddess. This was their idea, and it just seemed to fit so naturally.’
I think that’s a cop out, at the same time I am being hypocritical as I can’t think right now of who I would put on the cover. I’m going to take it to TWITTER.
