1983年 東京生まれの日本人作家「Ei Kaneko」。作品のモチーフとして選ぶ画像（主に人物または動物）はインターネット、雑誌など身の回 りで掘り出され、それを編集/部分的にサンプリングしたものを組み合わせて制作。完成した作品はいわばアナログなフォトモンタージュであり、様々な時系列、場所（ドメイン）から拾われたこれらの画像は鉛筆と紙を通し、同 一次元（紙面）に共存する新しいイメージへと昇華。
写真は彼の作品において極めて重要な位置す。ただし主眼にあるのはサンプリングしたモチーフそのものが持つ意味や、それが象徴する何かを伝えることではなく、彼は画像を1つの平面に再構築し、そのル ーツや意味を消失させながらも「新たな存在」を作り上げたもの。
彼が発する言葉に耳を傾けると、彼の平面をモノとして捉える姿勢から「空間」に対する意識とこだわりが垣間みれる。今回の個展では、従来の手法での作品ととももに、参照画像が元来持つイメージとの繋がりをさらに希薄にしながら、組合わさることによって生まれる抽象的な空気感を表現した新作群を発表。

Ei Kaneko is a highly talented Artist residing in Tokyo. His hand drawn illustrations evoke the dark romanticism of a past era whilst taking contemporary collage form. ‘Born and currently based in Tokyo, Ei Kaneko is known for his distinctive “collage-like” graphite drawings. The motifs (often being people and animals) which are edited by him, are found on the internet, from magazines and other mediums surrounding him. The completed works are an analogue version of a photo-montage, where various images from various time spans and places (ex domains) come to one on a single dimension(paper) through the tips of his pencils.’
