3月より開催される最もエキサイティングな「アーウィン・ブルーメンフェルド」の国内初となる個展が東京都写真美術館で開催される。
「ハーパース・バザー」や「ヴォーグ」等のファッション誌を中心に、第一次、第二次世界大戦を挟んで活躍した、「アーウィン・ブルーメンフェルド」（1897-1969年、独→米）の国内初の個展を開催。欧米ではファッション･ポートレイト全盛期の旗手としてポンピドゥー美術館（パリ、 1981年）、バービカンセンター（ロンドン、1996年）の個展などで高い評価を得ているブルーメンフェルドですが、重要な作品が各国の美術館に散在していることから、これまで日本国内で全貌をご紹介する機会がありませんでした。今回、ブルーメンフェルドのご遺族、関係者によって、1930年代のヴィンテージ・プリントや作家自身が選出した名作100点、カラー復元された美しいファッション写真などが集められました。本展覧会はパリのジュ・ドゥ・ポーム美術館に先んじて、それらの資料から独自の視点で構成した約200点の作品群をご紹介する貴重な機会。シュルレアリスムからヌード、ファッションまで網羅し、多くの写真家に影響を与えたブルーメンフェルドの表現ですが、その陰には二大戦に翻弄され、時代に応じて活動の場を選択せざるを得なかった作家の苦悩が存在。作家の活動を通し、時代背景、思想などに視点を向けると、美しい表現の根底にある精神が見えてくる。詳しくはコチラ！

As described by the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, ‘The ‘Erwin Blumenfeld: a hidden ritual of beauty’ exhibition will be the first solo exhibition in Japan to present the work of Erwin Blumenfeld, who was well-known as a photographer for ‘Vogue’ and ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ magazines, etc. He is famous for his gorgeous fashion photographs and portraits, but if we look at his personal background through the two world wars, etc., and his moves from Berlin to Amsterdam, to Paris, then finally U.S.A., we will gain a greater understanding of the artistic spirit that underlies his beautiful expressions. We have received the full support of the Blumenfeld family in holding this exhibition, allowing us to present valuable works and materials to explore the secret of his creative activities.’
