日本を拠点にフォトグラファーとして活動するギー・マルティネズ。そんな彼の初となるソロエキシビション「Out Of Reach」が、10月6日より渋谷ヒカリエにて開催される。
私はいつも身の回りのものに対して、とても強い思いを感じている。
その思いは「ノスタルジア」という言葉でしか説明ができない。
この甘くて苦い感情は、これまでに出会った人々や訪れた場所を思い出す時のみならず、シンプルな会話や美しいアート作品に触れた時にも感じる。
それは私が、自分が生きていない他人の記憶や経験にをあたかも自分のものとして郷愁にかられている感覚なのだ。それは私と直接的関係のない、まだ出会う機会が訪れていない人や場面を愛おしく感じることである。この感覚は私を奮い立たせると同時に自分は体験できなかったのだという悲しみを与える。
今回のOut Of Reach展で写真を通し、この手に届くそして届かない経験への好奇心と郷愁を感じてもらいたい。

Photographer Gui Martinez presents his first solo exhibition ‘Out of Reach’ October 6th – October 9th at Creative Lounge aiiima on the 8th floor of Shibuya’s Hikarie.
In the words of the man himself, ‘I’ve always felt a strong feeling towards certain things around me which I can only describe through words as ‘nostalgia’. Usually, this bittersweet feeling comes to me when I recall places I’ve been to or people I’ve met, but sometimes it is triggered by other people, whether through a simple conversation or an intricate piece of artwork.
It’s as if I feel nostalgic for their memories and experiences, which I myself have not lived. It’s a kind of longing for things outside myself, for situations and people that I have not yet had the chance to encounter and grow from. This being what my spirit thrives on, I can’t help but feel a sense of loss for these undiscovered experiences.
Out of Reach is a collection of photographs that aims to pass on and share this sense of curiosity and longing for experiences both within and beyond our reach.’
