毎年メトロポリタン美術館で開催されるファッション祭典。アナ・ウィンターが主催する世界最大規模のファッション展覧会は、世界中のセレブたちが1つの場所に、この日のために集結する、1年を通して最も重要なファッションプロジェクト。
Dress from UNDERCOVER S/S 2015
各界のセレブがが集うファッション界のアカデミー賞「Met Gala」、「カトリック」がテーマの今年は、「Heavenly Bodies : Fashion and the Catholic Imagination（天国のボディ：ファッションとカトリックのイマジネーション）」と題したファッションとカトリックに着想。テーブル席に3,000万円以上を支払い、俳優陣、モデル、歌手と最高のゲストと共に会場に足を運ぶデザイナーとセレブリティ。会場には、15世紀から現代までの衣料30,000点以上を展示し、服飾部門の資金集めとして開催される世界最大規模のファッション展覧会。「互いに影響を与えてきたファッションとカトリック」と語るキュレーターのアンドリュー・ボルトン。
ボルトンが紹介するプレビュー映像には、幻想画として名高いヒエロニムス・ボスの作品からインスパイアされた UNDERCOVER 2015年春夏コレクションのドレスが目に止まった。2ヶ月後の7月中旬、ニューヨーク行きが決定しているのでぜひ足を運んでみようと思う。
The MET Gala is fashions equivalent of the Oscars, the red carpet arrivals getting more attention year after year. Brands pay thousands of dollars for tables at the event to which they invite/dress guests – this is after all a fundraiser. The money goes towards the costume department of the Met Museum, the theme for the Spring exhibition and the Gala this year being ‘Heavenly Bodies, Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. The exhibition examines fashion’s ongoing engagement with the devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism through historical, contemporary, sacred and sartorial artefacts.
Whilst watching a video preview of the exhibition by curator Adam Bolton we spotted a dress from UNDERCOVER’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection ‘Pretty Hate Bird’ (see photos here on tokyodandy.com) The collection was inspired by and used from Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’. We’re going to be in New York this Summer and are looking forward to finally having the chance to visit one of the Costume Institutes headline exhibitions.
