1970年代に日本人として初めてロンドンでファッションショーを開催した1人のファッションデザイナー/プロデューサー「山本寛斎」が … 動き出した！2012年9月、北京にて開催された日中国交正常化40周年記念事業「HELLO CHINA!!」の再演として、3月29日「HELLO JAPAN!!」と題したファッションとエンターテイメントを融合したステージショーが行われた。「山本寛斎」40年の歴史が詰まった人間とエネルギーの「FASHION x ENTERTAIMENT」ショー。1971年、「KANSAI IN LONDON」で発表された凧絵のドレスや、デビッド・ボウイが1973年のツアーで着用した伝説の衣装「TOKYO POP」、ジョン・レノンが愛用したスカジャン、山本寛斎の原点ともいえる70年代の作品と新作コレクションを韓国人歌手のJUNOや、映画や演劇などにも出演する世界的ダンサー森山開次らが着用し人間のエネルギーを見せつけた。また、日本を代表するトランぺッター近藤等則によるトランペットの咆哮とファッションの激しい交錯を披露。
ちょうど1年前のこの時期、陶芸家・料理研究家として知られるアーティスト、カズコ・ロッシュのクローゼットの中には、宝箱のように山本寛斎のヴィンテージがズラリと眠っていた。そこで思いついたTOKYODANDYは、「THE OTHER YAMAMOTO」と題したファッション・シューティングを決行したのだ（コチラ！）。
40 Years ago, Designer Kansai Yamamoto was the first Japanese Designer ever to show a collection in London (see a video clip from his 1971 show here). His Kabuki inspired creations brought an u unti then unseen colorful sense of Japanese style to the world. Far removed from the CDG and Y.Yamamoto designs that would come to symbolize the Japanese aesthetic a decade later, Yamamoto’s flare attracted performers and in 1972 Kansai received the call to dress David Bowie and Fashion x Music History was made.
Although he stopped doing official fashion shows for retail back in the 90’s, Kansai Yamamoto has maintained his presence by orchestrating an entirely new kind of ‘Super Show’ and ‘Festivals of Life’ (see videos here). The shows are international celebrations of fashion and humanity with Kansai-san as producer. Smaller shows are also held, and last week we were invited to the ‘Hello Japan’ showcase in Tokyo. Featuring legendary iconic designs with martial arts performers, and top japanese actors and musicians, ‘Hello Japan’ was an inspiring, colorful and at times dated look into Kansai’s world. We hope to attend one of the huge SUPER shows in the future!
