先日取り上げたW Magazineの最新号、表紙には老いぼれた姿で登場したブラッド・ピット（Brad Pitt）。この写真が話題となり多くの人々が、幾つに見えるかコメントしている。

下記写真は、2005年に発刊されたW Magazineでの写真で、ケイト・モス（Kate Moss）が、ブラッド・ピットと同様同じ写真技法で登場したのだ。
フォトグラファー、チャック・クロース（Chuck Close）による、ダゲレオタイプといった恐竜のような名前の写真技法だ。
ダゲレオタイプ（Daguerreotype）とは･･･
世界最初の実用的写真技法で、温板写真が確立するまでの間、最も普及した写真技法なのだ。銀メッキをした銅板などを感光材料として使うため、日本語では「銀板写真」と呼ばれている。タゲレオタイプは、ルイ・ジャック・マンデ・ダゲール（Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre）により発明され、フランス学士院で発表された。
チャック・クロースは、親しい人のポートレートを描き続けることで有名な画家･写真家で、描き方としては、基本的に写真をもとにして、それをキャンバスに転写するように描いてるとか。少し変わった取り組み方だ。一つのスタイルを決めて、様々な人を描いていくのではなく、ある人を、それも一枚の写真をもとに、様々な方法で描いていくとか。彼自身の描きかたに、とても興味が沸く。

Photographer and artist Chuck Close is behind the images of Brad Pitt, just as he was the images of Kate Moss which appeared in W Magazine in 2005. Close uses a specific type of photography, the “Daguerreotype” method, which reveals and exaggerates blemishes and imperfections in the skin of the subject being photographed. As fashion photography increasingly strives for perfection through photoshop and digitalisation, the photography of Chuck Close highlights the subject as human and reverses the air brushing process. We applaud Kate and Brad for participating in this artistry.
