現代に生きる職人たちの新規性、卓越性、芸術的な価値を世に示し称えるため、国際的に展開される「ロエベ ファンデーション」。2016年にロエベ財団とロエベのクリエイティブ ディレクター、ジョナサン・アンダーソン主催によるインターナショナル アワード「ロエベ クラフト プライズ 2017」が、 スペイン、ニューヨーク、東京の3都市で巡回展を開催する。
「工芸技術の斬新な適用と芸術性あふれるオリジナルコンセプトを組み合わせること」を唯一の応募資格として、18歳以上のプロのアルチゼンから作品が募られ、2017年2月、専門委員会（Experts Panel）が、5大陸75ヵ国に住むあらゆる年齢層（20代から80代まで）の4,000点近い応募作品の中から26名のファイナリストを選出。
本展では、「ロエベ クラフト プライズ 2017」の大賞に受賞したエルンスト・ギャンペール、特別賞が贈られた神代良明とアステサニアス・パクニアを含む最終ファイナリスト26名の作品を展示。

第2回ロエベ クラフト プライズの応募は、6月にスタートし受賞者は2018年にパリで発表予定。
From November 16 to 30, Gallery 21_21 Design Sight will host in Tokyo an exhibition featuring the 26 nominees of the Loewe Craft Prize 1st edition. This is the third of three of a touring exhibition that intends to reflect the merits of modern craftsmanship. The imagination, diversity, and techniques on display all attest to the crucial role artisans have in the ongoing construction of cultural heritage.
The winner of the 2017 crafts prize was “Tree of Life 2” by Ernst Gamperl. The president of the jury Anatxu Zabalbeascoa explained the decision, ‘For the way in which this work explores the meeting point between formal values and a social message. This is an object that is both beautiful, and teaches us the value of recycling. It is based on rescuing fallen trees and bringing nature back to life with exquisite skill. It is the work of a gifted craftsman who has the special ability to have developed a distinctive individual voice rather than a style or signature’.
The jury gave a special mention to Japanese entrant, Yoshiaki Kojiro: ‘The jury recognised the exercise of research, embracing risk and innovation by mixing materials to achieve a shape that is ultimately a structure of experimentation.’
