ニック リトルモア [EMPIRE OF THE SUN/PNAU/AUSTRALIA]
何だ、このルックス…近付かないほうがよさそうな、かなーりヤバイ連中だが、一方その音は、適度にスペーシー、ベタながらスタイリッシュ、いつしか身体が動き出す踊れるエレロックで、かなりゴキゲンなサウンドをたたき出してくれる。
奇抜で度肝を抜かれるコスプレに身を包みながら、眩しいほどドリーミーでエレクトリック、そしてサイケデリックなサウンドで現在世界中に中毒者続出状態 だ。異色ディオ、エンパイア・オブ・ザ・サンは、6月10日にデビュー・アルバム『太陽の帝国』で日本上陸を果たしたばかりだ。
エンパイア・オブ・ザ・サンはスリーピー・ジャクソンのフロントマン、ルーク・スティールと、知る人ぞ知る元ティーネージャーのメンバーで現プナウのニック・リトルモアからなるオーストラリアの2人組である。
ルークがカリスマ・ボーカリストとして君臨するスリーピー・ジャクソンは2枚のアルバムをリリースしすでに世界的に高い評価を得ているロック・バンドであ り、ニックはエレクトロ・シーンを代表するアーティスト。2人は9年前の出会いから制作活動を開始、2人の強烈な個性と想像力が生み出した異次元世界は、 2008年オーストラリアでデビューするやいなや反響が広がり、2009年には世界にまで伝染することになる。
エンパイア・オブ・ザ・サンという名は、スピルバーグ監督の映画「Empire Of The Sun」に由来しているが、実際はアレハンドロ・ホドロフスキー監督の1973年に公開された前衛映画「The Holy Mountain」（キリストのごとく磔にされた主人公が社会を離れ、道中出合った仲間と共に不老不死を求める旅に出るというストーリー。）からインスパ イアされているのだとか。…超人の考えていることはよく分からん。
アルバム『太陽の帝国』は、まさに映画を作るようにアルバムの元となる脚本を考え、シーンに合った曲をそれぞれ作るという制作形態を採ったのだという。
結果、生み出された音はキャッチーでありながらも、核となるコンセプトにしっかりと沿ったブレることのない作風が貫かれ、壮大な意思をもった作品となった。
聴きだすと次第にクセになる妙なトリップ感、変な副作用のあるサウンド・サプリという感じです。

Australian artist, singer, songwriter, producer & composer
Nick cannot be defined by one sound or even one medium. As well as pouring out prolific pop he works in film, theatre and even art.
Nick has been making and releasing music since the tender age of 16. He is the master of spreading himself far and wide without subsiding his talent. He seems to feed off collaboration in production and in reinventing himself with new and diverse acts. Not satisfied with his award winning electro pop outfit “PNAU”, he casually grabbed “The Sleepy Jackson’s” Luke Steele to experiment with new directions. The result came to be know as “Empire of the sun” and their first album has sold over a million records worldwide. However Nick refused to let one massively successful project tie him down. In “Teenager”, with “Ladyhawke” singer Pip Brown, he found his inner punk, screaming out all the emotions that are too extreme for the dancefloor. As a producer Nick has inspired countless Australian acts and continues this working with the likes of “Groove Armada”, “Darren Emerson” and new act “Lover Lover”. His first love is still “PNAU”, album number 4 is brewing and set to send Nick into the stratosphere.
Nick grew up in Sydney and now can be found wandering between London, Los Angeles and Paris.
