2017年、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館（MET）特別展でギャルソン率いる川久保玲の展覧会「Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons」が正式に発表された。
2017年5月1日に開催されるメトロポリタン（MET）美術館のガラパーティーでは、ケイティ・ペリーとファレル・ウィリアムスがホストを務め、主宰を務めるアナ・ウィンター、女優やモデルと様々なセレブたちがニューヨークの街に集結する祭典。正式名称「コスチューム・インスティチュード・ガラ」、なんと1983年に開催されたイヴ・サンローラン展に続き、存命するデザイナーの展覧会は川久保玲が史上2人目なのだ。なんとも興味深い。
It’s been announced that Rei Kawakubo / Comme Des Garcons will be the subject of New York’s Metropolitan Costume Institute’s annual headline exhibition. The career spanning tribute will feature over 120 pieces, and will be celebrated with the Met Gala on the first Monday of May 2017. Co-Chaired by Anna Wintour, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams and honorary chair Rei Kawakubo, it’s going to be interesting to see the Gala attendees make their way up the stairs of the Met. This is only the second time, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983, that a living Designer has been given this honour.
