本日公開、世界的音楽家・坂本龍一の音楽と思索の旅を捉えたドキュメンタリー映画「Ryuichi Sakamoto: CODA」。
The life and work of Ryuichi Sakamoto is reflected upon in a new documentary ‘Ryuchi Sakamoto:CODA’.
5年前の2012年、長期にわたって完成した本人密着取材ドキュメンタリー。40年近く前となる1978年のYMO（イエロー・マジック・オーケストラ）結成、83年に公開された映画「戦場のメリークリスマス」で俳優デビュー、87年「ラストエンペラー」では自身が手掛けた音楽で数々の賞を受賞、映画監督としての地位も確立し、その後も作曲家、演奏家、音楽プロデューサーとして幅広いジャンルで活動。90年代後半になると、社会・環境問題に意識を向けるようになり、その変化は音楽表現にも表れていった。
The film is shot by Director Stephen Nomura Schible over a period of 5 years. Sakamoto is the soul interviewee for the documentary which poetically entwines archival footage and performances with contemporary scenes. Next year will be the 40th Anniversary of the award winning composers debut and the film highlights the diversity of the YMO alum’s eclectic output.
2014年、中咽頭ガンという思いがけない診断をされ、1年近くに及ぶ闘病を経て「母と暮らせば」、「レヴェナント：蘇えりし者」で仕事復帰。2017年春には、8年ぶりのオリジナルアルバム「async」をリリース。
40年にわたって多くの作品を生み出してきた現在65歳の坂本龍一、震災以降の音楽表現の変化に興味を抱き、密着取材を始めたのは、本作が劇場版映画初監督となるスティーブン・ノムラ・ジブル。監督も着眼した大きな変化とは、テクノロジー頼る現代人の営みが、自然環境を蝕み、人間の生き場所をも奪ってしまうことへの悲しみ。「全てさらけだした」という本作は、音楽活動から映画、自然や街のノイズなどの音集め、闘病生活、プライベート映像など、これまでを振り返った思索の旅捉えたドキュメンタリー。
Now aged 65, Sakamoto’s musical style changed after the earthquake in 2011. Visits to the affected areas and the resonance they spark in the musician are solemn yet moving moments in the touching portrait, released in Japan today.
