Behind the scenes and backstage at the annual Shima Hair Show, where the Hair Stylists are often as colourful as the models who walk the runway. Two shows take place on the day, one focused on Hair and Beauty school students, the second for press and (paying) fans. Lots of Asian/Harajuku referencing cultural amplification as the SHIMA stylists display their vision for this seasons hair – a huge market here in Japan. With more hair & make-up than a season of Ru Paul’s drag race, each stage was set to a particular theme. ‘TOKYO BABY’s’ key theme this year being the new generation of Tokyo kids. This was evident in the casting of social media style stars alongside pro-models as well as a healthy dose of racial diversity with lots of mixed-race faces. A debut boys stage offered an injection of cheeky testosterone which overflowed into the after-party immediately after the show at which TOKYO DANDY DJ’d with Elli-Rose.
