各国から出席した俳優陣にミュージシャン、アーティスト、映画監督、ハイライトともいえるミラノコレクション初日の「グッチ」2018年春夏コレクション。なかでも一際目立っていた黒の着物姿で登場した1人の日本人女性。
Amongst the Artists, Musicians, Actors and Muses at Gucci’s SS18 presentation in Milan, one girl stood out. Japanese Actress Nikaido Fumi chose to wear a kimono of her own design (english continue below)
魅惑的でロマンチックなドレスに身を包む出席者（フロントロウ）と並んで、”黒の衝撃（The Schok of Black）” を演出した彼女の名は『二階堂ふみ』。「私はいつも着物の文化に関心を持っていました」と語る和装姿の彼女はまさに女優。フォーマルな伝統衣装としてではなく、新しいコレクションのお披露目という場でファッションにもなるということを証明してくれた。
日本文化を伝える貴重な機会として、2度目の出席を果たした二階堂。ホテルに戻り今回着用していた着物について話を聞いてみた。「日本を離れた別の国で着物の魅力を伝えることができればと。また、カラフルなミケーレの世界観を目にして、真逆とも言える真っ黒の着物を身に付けたいと思い自らデザインしました。私はモデルではないので、自分自身を表現する一つのアイデンティティとして真っ黒の生地選びから、長めの袖、帯、裏地（胴裏）、前坪には赤を、履物は鼻緒の部分にグッチのスカーフ用いた畳表のぽっくり、手元には昆虫のモチーフをあしらったグッチの「オッティリア」バンブーハンドル バックを。まず目に飛び込んでくるのは真っ黒の着物なので、黒の質感と赤のアクセントにはとてもこだわりました。」
彼女のキャリアのなかで最も輝かしい出来事といえば、第68回ヴェネツィア国際映画祭で新人俳優賞（マルチェロ・マストロヤンニ賞）を受賞したことに違いない。園子温監督による映画「ヒミズ」のヒロインを16歳で演じた6年前以来、女優としての階段を一気に駆け上がる実力派若手女優。そして、2018年公開予定の都会に生きる高校生たちを描いた岡崎京子の名作漫画「リバース・エッジ」、90年代を舞台にそれぞれが問題を抱えた青年たちの青春物語。女子高生・若草ハルナを演じる二階堂ふみを主演に実写映画化されることが決定。来年の公開がとても楽しみという彼女は、企画からキャスティング、作品の製作全体に携わっていることを教えてくれた。また、ドラマや映画はもちろん、バラエティー番組でも活躍する傍ら、教育学と芸術を学ぶ現役大学生ということにも驚いてしまった。
今回の体験はとても良い経験になりました。と語る二階堂。「イタリア・ミラノに足を運んで生でショーを見るのはとても良い経験です。会場全体の雰囲気はもちろん、空間、演出と、足を運ばないと感じれない部分も体感させて頂きました。また、映画の世界とは異なるので自分自身への刺激にもなりました。」

Japanese Actress Nikaido Fumi chose to wear a kimono of her own design, ‘the shock of black’ amongst the romantic glamour of Alessandro Michele’s creations worn by the other front row guests. It was a bold state ‘I’ve always taken an interest in kimono culture, that a kimono can be fashion and not just formal traditional wear’, Fumi told us back at her hotel room after the show. She explained to us that she chose to wear a kimono for this, the second Gucci show she’s attended, as it’s a rare overseas opportunity to present not just herself but Japanese culture – a culture often referenced in fashion collections. ‘I wear Gucci in my own time but I’m not a model and with everyone wearing Gucci at the show I wanted to feel like myself and a kimono makes me feel grown up’. Nikaido designed the Kimono herself paying close attention to the type of fabric used and how each looked in black, the bright red layer beneath? ‘I think it’s sexy, a subtle Japanese sexiness. It catches the eye without being too-much’. Such close attention to detail was put into the outfit from head-to-toe, Fumi took vintage Gucci scarves to a craftsman in Asakusa and had him turn them into the straps on her geta sandals.
A Gucci girl is just one of the roles played by the Okinawa-born star. Her career has gone from strength to strength since she first emerged with her Venice Film Festival ‘Best Young Actress’ winning turn in filmmaker’s Sion Sono’s ‘Himizu’. In an industry where actresses are often typecast, Nikaido has brought both breadth and depth to her roles. After spending the Summer on stage in Osaka, Nikaido is looking forward to the 2018 release of ‘River’s Edge’, an live-action adaptation of the 90’s manga by Kyoko Okozaki. Fumi took on extra duties including casting, added responsibilities the 23-year old relished. All this whilst still in her 3rd year as a student at University with studies focusing on Education and The Arts, an interest she sees herself pursuing further in the future. ‘I enjoy the whole experience of coming to see Gucci shows – seeing other people’s approach to personal style, being able to enjoy Milan, meeting new people, taking photos – it all informs my work as an Actress’. The focus that Fumi put into her look at Gucci is testament to the determination and drive which has made her one of Japan’s most prominent young Actresses. We look forward to following the continued upward trajectory of Miss Nikaido Fumi.
