改めまして、新年明けましておめでとうございます。
2011年も、みなさまにとって良い年でありますように。
さてさて、2011年もっともエキサイティングなニュースをまとめてみました。
1）NEW MUSIC –
5月23日リリース予定のレディ・ガガ（Lady Gaga）の3rdアルバム。名付けて、「Born This Way」。さらに、ブリトニー、レディオレッド、ストロークス、BECK、モグワイ、ブリティッシュ・シー・パワー、コールドプレイ、ミッシー・エリオットらもアルバムリリースを予定している。
2）エディ・スリマン –
ディオール・オム（Dior Homme）のクリエイティブ・ディレクターを退任して3年が経った今。フォトグラファーとして活動するエディ・スリマン（Hedi Slimane）が、2011年3月にこれまでの作品を一冊のBOOKとして発売する予定。題して、「Hedi Slimane Anthology of a Decade」。ディオールやサンローラン時代の貴重な作品も登場するとのこと。
3）ニコラ・フォルミケッティ出動 –
ブリティッシュ・ファッション・アワード（British Fashion Aword）で特別功労賞が贈られた亡きアレキサンダー・マックイーン（Alexander McQueen）。何よりも話題に。さらに、イザベラ・ブロウ賞に選ばれたニコラ・フォルミケッティ（Nicola Formichetti）。そんな彼が、ティエリー・ミュグレー（Thierry Mugler）のクリエイティブ・ディレクターに抜擢されて初のコレクションが1月19日に行われることだった。2011年秋冬パリ・コレクションが楽しみすぎる。
4）VERBAL ソロプロジェクト –
昨年から話題が絶えずファッション界を混乱させるこのお方。ご存知、m-flo, TERIYAKI BOYZなどで知られるするアーティスト/音楽プロデューサー「VERBAL」氏。そんな彼が密かに動き始めていたソロ活動。濃いのなんのって。参加アーティストは、あのリル・ウェイン（Lil Wayne）やニッキー・ミナージュ（Nicki Minaj）、大沢伸一、スウィズ・ビーツ（Swizz Beatz）といった世界的プロデューサー陣を迎えたほか、昨年には、ドラマ「パーフェクト・リポート」のオープニングテーマとしてソロ名義の楽曲「Fall Out feat. SHUNYA」を発表したのだ。フィーチャリング相手に現役大学生シンガー「SHUNYA」を抜擢したことでも話題に。楽しみすぎるボーダレスかつ、ジャンルレスな期待の一枚。乞うご期待。
5）表参道プロジェクト –
「表参道プロジェクト」と名付けられた新たな大型ファッションビルが生まれる。明治通り沿いに在する、日本国内初出店となるアメリカンイーグルアウトフィッターズ、表参道側に世界最大級のグローバル旗艦店となるトミーフィルフィーガー、中央には、moussyやSLYを展開するバロックジャパンリミテッドが世界へ向けた旗艦店として新業態を出店するのだ。そう、お気づきかと思うが、丁度GAPのあった場所にやってくるのだ。
6）韓国事情 –
嵐のようにやってきた「K POP」ブーム。KARAに少女時代。東方神起にBIG BANG。音楽だけでなく、ファッション界でもアジアの風が吹いている。テレビやマスメディアでの人気はもちろん、アングラパーティでのK POPサウンドも欠かせないものとなっている。ファッション誌を見てみろ。韓国特集と大々的に書かれたNYLON JAPAN。さらに、女性ファッション誌「ViVi」でも韓国特集が。DJ陣が韓国を訪れ雑誌ページにて連載特集があったりと、盛り沢山な韓国ブーム。そして … わたしたちTOKYODANDYも韓国に訪れる予定です。
7）ビューティー アンドレイ・ペジック –
とあるファッション誌のエディトリアルでポージングをとるモデルの、アンドレイ・ペジック（Andrej Pejic）。誰もがフィーメル モデルと思ってしまう。そう … レディースアイテムを身につけ上品なポージングにフィーメルのような雰囲気を醸し出すのだからね。いやいや。逆にメンズアイテムに切り替えると、奇麗な男の子なのかもしれない。何がいいたいかって。彼のようなモデルが誕生したことによって、何かが変わってきているのです。また、フォトグラファー、ユルゲン・テラー（Juergen Teller）によるマーク・バイ・マーク・ジェイコブス（Marc by Marc Jacobs）の2011年春夏キャンペーンに抜擢。先日「MARC JACOBS AOYAMA」にて開催されたロバート・ダフィーによるサイン会では、その日のためだけに日本に訪れていた多忙な彼。同日夜にはパリへとリターン。
8）MADEMOISELLE YULIA –
ブルーヘアがトレードマークでアイコニックなのはもちろん、DJ/コラボレーション/マドモコーナ/などと常に引っ張りだこのマドモアゼル・ユリア（Mademoiselle Yulia）。そんな彼女の、エキサイティングな音楽プロジェクトが遂に動き始めた。過去、2008年8月にミックスアルバム「NEON SPREAD 2」をリリースしたほか、オリジナル曲「TOUCH ME」までもが収録されていた。さらに、彼女がホストのLe Baron de Parisレギュラーイベントが今月の28日にやってくる。個人的に、過去2回とも参加できなかったのでとても楽しみだ。
9）NEW BOOKS –
LOVE TESTINO, LOVE KATE, BUT …
「KATE MOSS BY MARIO TESTINO」のオリジナルフォトブック150,000円 …。ワオー。あのサイズで、その金額。いやいや …。わたしは、近日中に発売される、7000円の方をゲットさせて頂きます（HERE）。そしてもう一つ、アレキサンダー・マックイーンの卒業制作作品から、ファイナルコレクションが詰まりに詰まった貴重な一冊のブック「Alexander McQueen：Savage Beauty」。2011年5月には、NYのメトロポリタン博物館にて回顧展が開催される予定。
10）映画事情 –
昨年に引き続きもっともエキサイティング ムービー情報。まず、ブラッド・ピットとショーン・ペーンが共演している「The Tree Of Life」。そして、ゲームにも影響していると話題勃発な「キャプテン・アメリカ（Captain America）」。続いて、9月公開予定の青い妖精たちが登場する「ザ・スマーフ（The Smurfs）」。ゴシック調のあの映画「赤ずきんちゃん（Red Riding Hood）」。もっともエキサイティングなムービーは？それはさておき、映画のトレーラーに疑問をもったことありませんか？トレーラーにというか、トレーラーの内容がとても良くできすぎていて、実際にフルバージョンで見てみるとガッカリさせられたり。などと。トレーラーの重要性は十分承知だが、あまり良い部分だけを出してしまうと、フルバージョンが楽しめないということだね。anyway.
11）LIVE IN JAPAN –
ケイティ・ペリー（Katy Perry）、カイリー・ミノーグ（Kylie Minogue）、エム・アイ・エー（M.I.A.）、ザ・クラクソンズ（The Klaxons）、アイアン・メイデン（Iron Maiden）、シザー・シスターズ（The Scissor Sisters）、ザ・ドラムス（The Drums）、ジャスティン・ビーバー（Justin ‘Baby’ Bieber）… 円高ということもありこぞって訪れる数々のアーティスト。そして、毎年恒例日本最大級サマーフェスティバル「FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’11」に「サマー・ソニック 2011（SUMMER SONIC 2011）」。現時点で、レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズ（Red Hot Chili Peppers）とザ・ストロークス（The Strokes）がサマソニ出演決定。さらに、アルバムリリースを控えているお二方。
最後に … 今後のTOKYODANDYにも乞うご期待。
2011, it sounds like the future – but it’s today. The buzz of the festive season is over, most people are back to work and most New Years resolutions have already been broken. But fear not, we’ve compiled a list of 11 things on the horizon that you can look forward to in 2011…
1) NEW MUSIC – Gaga leads the pack with her new album ‘Born this way’, the May 23rd release date for which she announced on New Years eve. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, Britney, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, PJ Harvey, The Strokes, Beck, Mogwai, British Sea Power, Coldplay, The Go Team, Missy Elliot and Patrick Wolf are just a few of the artists slated to release new material this year.
2) HEDI SLIMANE – He dictated men’s fashion at the beginning of the last decade before becoming a leading photographer in the latter half. This month sees the release of a collection of Slimane’s photography, ‘Anthology of a decade’, as well as a Stern Fotographie special. Does this signify a clean end to Slimane’s current aesthetic as he move towards a new one? Or, can we dare to suggest it might be a sign of him returning as a designer?
3) NICOLA FORMICHETTI FOR THIERRY MUGLER – Nicola has decorated our world for years but his work with Lady Gaga has brought him mass-global acclaim. The busiest man in fashion steps it up this year as Creative Director for Thierry Mugler, the first show for which will be the men’s collection designed by Romain Kremer to be presented on January 19th in Paris.
4) VERBAL’S SOLO DEBUT – After 10 years with M-Flo and a being a member of Teriyaki Boyz, March 16th sees the release of Verbal’s highly anticipated first solo record. With tracks featuring production by Swizz beats, Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj, it’s the exciting next step for the visionary artist and Tokyo’s busiest personality – a new M-FLO record follows two weeks later on March 30th.
5) OMOTESANDO PROJECT – The new building on this prime corner of Harajuku real estate is set to open in Spring. The fact that Tommy Hilfiger is one of the flagship stores is not particularly exciting news, but the design of the building itself makes a change from the usual glass/steel structures which dominate new retail developments throughout the city. The decked interior space looks great, Harajuku needs to make changes, it’s kind of dead during the week and way to busy on a weekend.
6) KOREAN CONNECTIONS – K-pop is huge right now. It started with K-pop boys and it’s continued with the k-pop girls. Unlike other crazes that sweep through Japan the current popularity of K-pop extends from the mass media down to night club dance floors, this may not sound like much but in Japan such cross over appeal is actually quite rare. Fancy Him had a night in Seoul last year, Mademoiselle Yulia played at the Seoul Times Square count down party, Nylon just put out a Seoul special issue with a ViVi Korean special coming soon. Pop Culture is more powerful than politics! Whether it will be hosting a party or attending fashion week, Tokyo Dandy is determined to go to Korea in 2011!
7) The rise and rise of ANDREJ PEJIC – I feel in the last decade we were kind of forced fed Agyness Deyn as an ‘icon’, she’s great but she didn’t capture the imagination as ‘this generations’ Kate Moss as hyped. Andrej Pejic on the other hand has the potential to not be the next ‘anybody’ but an entirely new ‘somebody’. The fact that months after his international debut many of the fashion press and online tabloids still don’t know if he’s a boy or a girl is as telling as the fact that they care. See the above Juergen teller shot campaign for Marc by Marc Jacobs which will be followed shortly by a campaign for Jean Paul Gaultier. We predict Andrej will be THE face of the men’s shows in Paris this month. Admittedly a little biased having met Andrej a couple of times, he’s a sweet heart and don’t you just love it when good thing happen to good people?
8 ) MADEMOISELLE YULIA – The blue haired wonder will it to the next level this Spring with her debut record which follows on from two successful mix cds. Already a fashion icon, with her brand GIZA and a Joy Rich collaboration we’re going to see and hear a lot more form Mademoiselle Yulia in 2011.
9) NEW BOOKS – Love Testino. Love Moss. But 150,000 Yen was a but beyond our book budget last year. FEAR NOT! Amazon Japan have already listed the 7,000 Yen version that will be out later this year HERE.
Alexander McQueen, ‘Savage Beauty’ has been put together by names from The Costume Institute, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Style.com and Britain’s Independent Newspaper so expect a fitting tribute to the design genus we lost in 2010(here).
10) NEW MOVIES – It’s difficult to get excited over new movies because the trailers are always better than the real thing as marketing men seem to be much cleverer than script writers these days. By the end of the year you favorite movies will have been ones you had never heard of but were recommended by your friends. But here’s four on our radar, ‘The Tree Of Life’ (serious – Oscar contender), ‘Captain America’ (camp) and ‘The Smurfs’ (looking forward to knock-on Halloween effect) and Red Riding Hood (actually this looks a bit crap and I don’t like the Emo’ directing style of this woman who directed Twilight, but I like red).
11) LIVE IN JAPAN – The yen is strong which means you can expect to see a lot of foreign acts playing in Japan over the next few months. Already previewed on Tokyo Dandy we’ve seen Kylie, Katy Perry and M.I.A., you can add The Klaxxons, Iron Maiden, The Scissor Sisters, The Drums and Justin ‘Baby’ Bieber to that list. The biggest of all music events in Japan, Fuji Rock Festival ’11 has already been announced, it will take place on July 29th, 30th and 31st at Naeba, and Summer Sonic 2011 will follow on August 13th and 14th with The Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers already confirmed! Together with the big album releases this year expect some amazing live shows.
AND FINALLY….. Tokyo Dandy. We’re going to work much harder this year to give Tokyo and Japan the quality media coverage it deserves. WATCH THIS SPACE.
