テキサスに住むメキシコの男、「UMIT BENAN（ウミッド・ベナン」2017年春夏コレクションが東京でお披露目された。
Umit Benan has been exposed to a wide variety of cultures throughout his life – Turkey, Switzerland, New York and Milan just four of the places he has called home. But it is Japan’s Fashion Week, Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo, that he has chosen as the home from which to present his latest collection ‘ Los Bastardos’. The title and set were literal representations of the inspiration for the collection, cacti sprouting from the desert floor of the show hall. Referencing this start point through contemporary fabrics and unexpected silhouettes showed some clever touches, but we’ve seen this done in strong menswear collections in previous seasons, likewise the casting. It was a brave move to show this kind of collection in a country that has perfected the art of appropriating and reinterpreting Americana.
