昨夜（2011年11月30日）表参道ヒルズ スペース オーにて開催された「Vivienne Westwood Shoes, An Exhibition 1973-2012」のレセプションパーティ。イギリスが誇る世界的ファッションデザイナー、ヴィヴィアン・ウエストウッド（Vivienne Westwood）の「靴」にフォーカスした、約200足ものシューズコレクションを展示。本人私物の貴重なシューズコレクションから最新コレクション … また、ランウェイのみで発表されたバックやアクセサリーのショーピースなど。会場には、ヴィヴィアン ファンの姿はもちろん、彼女のシューズのみならず、彼女の世界観にはまってしまっている著名人の姿が。
どれも素敵なシューズたちだが … 1993年にナオミ・キャンベルが転倒（こちら）した”Super Elevated Gillie（スーパー・エレベイテッド・ギリー）”には釘付けになってしまった。1970年代にウエストウッドが提案した挑発的でアヴァンギャルドなクリエイション … “パンクの女王” とまで言われたウエストウッド。80年代に入ると、ヨーロッパの伝統文化や英国のヘリテージから着想を得たコレクションでエレガントにシフト。近年では、歴史主義から離れ布地が持つ自然な魅力を引き出すドレーピングコレクションに進化。
そんなヴィヴィアン・ウエストウッドの始まりは、ファッションではなく、北ロンドンでの小学校教師。ファッション界でのキャリアスタートは、1965年にマルコム・マクラーレンとの出会いからだった。とにかく … 素晴らしい彼女のこれまでのシューズコレクションを生で見るべし。

Omotesando Hills plays host to ‘Vivienne Westwood Shoes, An Exhibition 1973-2012’ which opens today, December 1st. Glass cases displaying the well crafted pieces fill the spacious hall in chronological order. I headed straight to 1993 and the purple Gillie shoes which anyone old enough in the 90’s will recall Naomi Campbell taking a tumble from during a Westwood Fashion show (video here). It’s impossible not to get lost in thinking of the places these shoes have walked throughout the years as Vivienne Westwood dressed everyone from Punks to Royalty and all in between. It’s easy to see how so many designers themselves have been ‘inspired’ by Vivienne Westwood’s work. There’s so much to take in, the attention to detail is incredible and makes the exhibition a must-see for anyone with the slightest interest in any kind of design.
