水玉のモチーフに連想する人と言ったらこの方しかいません。はい … 草間彌生（Yayoi Kusama）大先生です。丸の内ハウス 7階フロアを会場にカラフルな水玉たちが人間と共に踊っているようだった11月5日の「水玉強迫パーティナイト」。レストラン脇の通路 … 写真が展示された小さな部屋 … トイレの扉 .. そう … カラフルな水玉たちがあちこち散りばめられていたのだ。今回のエキシビションは、60年代ニューヨーク滞在中に注目された、水玉が無限に増殖するインスタレーションや新作の「宇宙にとどけ、水玉かぼちゃ」らが展示されている。11月14日までやっているので、草間弥生大先生の世界に入り込んでみるべし。

On Friday night we made a rare journey across the city to attend the Yayoi Kasumasa ‘Mother of Design’ exhibition party at Marunochi House. Marunochi House is a warren of small bars and restaurants on the 7th floor of the Shin-Marunochi Building in front of Tokyo Station. Finding traditional japanese izakaya and counter bars within such a modern sky scraper is really quite unique, usually each establishment is self contained but at Marunochi House each place is relatively open creating a lively atmosphere. The Yayoi Kasumasa exhibition is being held in two small adjoining rooms, it’s not huge but it’s always nice to slip into the imagination of one of Japans leading contemporary artists. The exhibition is being held until November 14th, if you can make it down there it’s definitely worth staying and having dinner and a few drinks.
On a side note, Tokyo Station (pictured below) is undergoing some kind of renovation work and looks like a Christo and Jeanne-Claude installation with the protective fabric wrapped around its exterior!
